Bridging and liaising cultural understanding is central to our educational programming. Engage with our vibrant community and challenge your students to examine their identities and enhance their ability to understand multiple perspectives. The Linden Centre provides a unique and intimate setting for cultural immersion and exploration that makes for an educational experience unlike anything else.
The Linden Centre’s founding mission is to promote cultural understanding and facilitate discussion abbot sustainability, authenticity, and identity: issues that matter in the community we serve and in an increasingly globalized world.
We provide unique, hands on learning experiences that immerse our students in the local community and encourage them to explore their individual interests. Educational programs at the Linden Centre are a once in a lifetime opportunity that challenge our students’ intellects and enhances their cultural awareness. We are committed to working with our parters to create customized educational programs that meet the specific needs and goals of their institutions.
Located in the heart of the Xizhou village, our second site Yang Zhuoran is a historic courtyard complex dedicated to hosting educational opportunities for schools from around the globe. For short and long term stays, Yang Zhuoran offers the entire complex to the school’s use, where students have the chance to explore, research, and interact with the rich local culture in a more intimate and in-depth way. In this space, schools are invited to work with the Linden Centre to design and carry out custom programs that specifically meet their educational goals. Past participating schools include Shanghai American School, Washington DC’s Sidwell Friends School, Yale University, and Virginia Tech.
Originally built in 1947 by a wealthy Xizhou merchant, the complex was recently renovated in 2013 as both a preservation of its original antiquity and an adaptation to allow convenient and comfortable collaborative learning. In addition to space for living, dining and relaxation, the complex offers several classrooms and a study for student’s use. While students are welcome to stay with us year round, this makes for an especially good summertime program.
The programs we have hosted offer flexibility from weeklong educational excursions to full semesters abroad. We encourage your students to use our facilities in Xizhou as a home base and jumping off point for further academic exploration of our culturally rich region of China.
