Artist-in-Residence

In order to promote the exchange of local culture and modern contemporary art, the Linden Centre invites artists, authors, designers from all over the world to be artists-in-residence at the Centre. During their residencies, artists create unique pieces often inspired by the local environment, give lectures, and share their innovative work with the local community, thus enhancing mutual understanding between cultures.

Josh Hadar (New York Metalwork Artist)

New York metalwork sculptor Josh Hadar worked with six students from the local Dali technical college to create a statue out of used car parts and scrap metal. They spent three days creating it, and hoped it would convey a creative attitude towards re-using “trash,” while also representing a modern take on a traditional figure of a Bai woman harvesting rice.

Screening of Matthias Jochmann’s play: “About My Parents and Their Child”

Matthias Jochmann came to Xizhou to figure out the meaning of “home”. He visited local and non-local people living in Xizhou to learn their understandings and feelings about the concept of “home”. Jochmann also held a screening of his play “About My Parents and Their Child,” a play regarding the dynamics of parent-child relationships in modern China.
