The Linden Centre provides young adults with cross-cultural immersion through place-based education. In cultivating future global citizens, the Linden Centre’s education programs dig deeply into local cultural resources and give back the community. We incorporate different resources, such as local architecture, customs, religion, handicrafts and communities, into content for educational experiences. Since 2011, the Linden Centre has worked with top schools to create a myriad of place-based educational projects. In 2018, the Linden Centre founded a film workshop for youths with both winter and summer sessions. During the film workshop, students get to know the local environment and people, learn professional filmmaking skills, and produce a short film. In order to give back to the local community, the Linden Centre film workshop uses part of the proceeds to subsidize local students’ workshop tuition costs. We do this so that local students can have better access to progressive international teaching methods and alternative educational resources. In addition, The Linden Centre helps students submit their films to various international film festivals. The documentary short film “The Soul of the Bai ” produced by the first group of film workshop students (including two local Bai girls) was included in the All American High School Film Festival in 2018. The Linden Centre also sponsored the students’ trip to America to participate in the film festival and awards show.
